== Preamble ==
This delinker bot was originally made such that images that were stored on a
global image repository (Wikimedia Commons) were delinked from local dependent
wikis when they were deleted from the global repository.

The first script was written and run by
Orgullomoore. It was later maintained by
Siebrand. This version is the result of a total
rewrite by Bryan and is currently run by Siebrand.
I want to thank them both for their contributions; without them this would have
been impossible, or at least very hard.

Introduction
The delinker bot is both a delinker and a replacer bot. On its own it is only
able to delink images, but with the help of replacer.py, it can also replace
images. It has both a global and local mode. In global mode, it will read the
deletion log from the shared image repository, and delink on that and local
wikis. In local mode, it will read a local deletion log and also delink locally
only.

Do not run the bot on Commons without consulting Siebrand or Bryan. Running
multiple instances will not only mess everything up, but also causes the
CommonsTicker to work no longer work correctly. Thank you.

Non Wikimedia wikis are currently unsupported. This is due to a flaw in
CheckUsage. (To be precise: it won't work for wikis that don't have
/w/api.php on that location.)

Program flow
Delinker
The bot reads the deletion log in a specified interval. The images that would
be eligible for delink, are passed to the CheckUsages threads. They will
check where to delink images from. For global delink, direct access to the
databases is required. Local delink will do without. This information is then
passed to the Delinker instances who will do the actual delinking.

Replacer
A seperate script is run, which reads commands that sysops can give by
adding a command in the form of .
It optionally will also clean up this list. The replacements are then saved to
a database. The delinker.py script will read out this, and pass the images to
the CheckUsages instances, from which onwards the process is the same as above.

Both bots allow the use of on-wiki summary templates. Refer to
m:User:CommonsDelinker for information on the syntax.

Plugins
CommonsDelinker has a basic plugin framework. More information can be found
in plugins.txt.

Requirements
* A recent SVN checkout of the pywikipedia framework
* Python 2.4 or higher
* A MySQL database and the MySQLdb api for Python, version 1.2.1_p or higher
** In the future, probably also sqlite3 will be supported.

Configuration
The delinker bot is dependent on a great number of configuration variables.
To run it, change them according to your needs and save them in user-config.py.
See below for an example configuration file.

Pywikipedia variables
Set the variables mylang and family to the appropriate language and
family. Also setup the usernames[][] variables.

Delinker variables
Due to historical reasons, the configuration variable is called CommonsDelinker.
First setup the dictionary CommonsDelinker, by adding to the config:
CommonsDelinker = {}

General settings
* timeout = 60: A general timeout, used for fetching the log and other
 timeouts. Set to 60 for medium sized wikis, such as English Wikipedia,
 and 60-120 for smaller wikis such as German Wikipedia. Note that during
 the timeout no more than 500 deletions may occur.
* checkusage_instances = 3, delinker_instances = 5,
 logger_instances = 2: number of threads to spawn. The default values
 are appropriate for most wikis.
* delink_namespaces = range(1000): Tuple or list of namespaces to delink
 from. Set to range(1000)[::2] to disable delinking from talk pages.
* local_settings = User:CommonsDelinker/: Prefix for on-wiki settings.
 Currently supported: summary-I18n for the delink summary and
 replace-I18n for the replace summary.
* default_settings = {\
	"summary-I18n": "The file :Image:$1 has been removed, as it \
 has been deleted by User:$2: $3.",
	"replace-I18n": "The file :Image:$1 has been replaced by \
 :Image:$2 by administrator User:$3: $4."
 }: Default settings, in case no on-wiki settings are found. For the meaning
 of the variables, please refer to m:User:CommonsDelinker.
* global = False: Set global or local delink. DO NOT RUN THIS BOT
 GLOBALLY WITHOUT CONSULTING BRYAN AND SIEBRAND. Thank you.
* no_sysop = True: Disable delinking as sysop.
* enable_logging = True: Enable logging actions to database.
* plugins = []: Enabled plugins. See plugins.txt for more information.

Delinker settings
Those variables only need to be set if the delinker is enabled.
* delink_wait = 600: The time to wait after deletion before the image is
 delinked.
* exclude_string = "no-delink": If this string is included in the deletion
 summary, the file is not delinked.
* summary_cache = 3600: Time before on-wiki settings are updated.

Replacer settings
Those variables only need to be set if the replacer is enabled.
* replace_template = "replace image": The template for to command
 replacement.
* command_page = "User:CommonsDelinker/commands": The page were sysops can
 give the bot commands.
* clean_list = False: Auto clean the list. Only use this if the bot
 actually has edit permissions to the list.
* disallowed_replacements = [(r'\.png$', r'\.svg$')]: List of regular expressions
 of refused replacements.

Reporting replacements
The replacer can insert a report on replaced images.
* replacer_report_replacements = False: Set to True to enable reporting.
* replacer_report_template = universally replaced: The template to insert. The
 template will be called with the following parameters: new_image, user, comment,
 not_ok.

SQL settings
You do not need to set these if you have logging disabled.
* sql_engine = "mysql": Database engine to use. Currently supported:
 MySQL. Support for sqlite3 is planned. The Global delinker requires MySQL.
* sql_config = {\
	'host': 'localhost',
	'user': "",
	'passwd': "",
 }: The configuration variables to be passed to the connect method of
 the database engine. Please refer to your database api manual for a full
 overview of the options.
* sql_layout = "new": Set to "legacy" for the old table layout.
* log_table = "database_name.delinker_table": The database.table to log to.
* replacer_table = "database_name.replacer_table": The database.table for the
 replacer. Only required if the replacer is activated.

Edit and debugging settings
* edit = True: Actually edit to the wiki.
* enable_delinker = True: Enable the delinker.
* enable_replacer = True: Enable the replacer.
* single_process_replacer = False: Start the replacer-reader and the
 replacer in one process. This is currently not yet supported.

SQL table layout
<code lang="sql">
CREATE TABLE delinker (
	timestamp CHAR(14),
	image VARBINARY(255),
	site_lang VARBINARY(31),
	site_family VARBINARY(255),
	page_namespace INT,
	page_title VARBINARY(255),
	status ENUM('ok', 'skipped', 'failed'),
	new_image VARBINARY(255)
);

CREATE TABLE replacer (
	id INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,
	timestamp VARBINARY(14),
	old_image VARBINARY(255),
	new_image VARBINARY(255),
	status ENUM('pending', 'ok', 'refused',
 'done', 'reported'),
	user VARBINARY(255),
	comment VARBINARY(255),

	PRIMARY KEY(id),
	INDEX (timestamp, old_image, new_image)
	INDEX (status)
);
</code>

However, if you use CommonsDelinker with CommonsTicker, you will need to have
a different table layout:
<code lang="sql">
CREATE TABLE delinker (
	timestamp CHAR(14),
	img VARBINARY(255),
	wiki VARBINARY(255),
	page_title VARBINARY(255),
	namespace INT,
	status ENUM('ok', 'skipped', 'failed'),
	newimg VARBINARY(255)
);
</code>
